Fire engineering
Teaching site :
Study of elements of the physics of fires necessary for an overall understanding of the phenomena and their effects on structures. Understanding the challenges of safety. Acquiring a basic knowledge of the main parts of the structural Eurocodes dealing with fire such that structures can be dimensioned with respect to their behaviour in fire.

Overall approach in fire safety engineering
safety objectives, performance criteria, fire scenarios
protection strategy, project evaluation tools
The challenges of safety
needs of industrialised countries
notions of safety scheme - application to fire safety
the regulations: why? for whom?
Introduction to European harmonisation
Construction Products Directive
Diversity of the regulatory approaches of member states
Phenomena of fire and thermal stresses
Different phenomena to be represented, transfer of matter and energy
Modelling of thermal stresses
Actions in case of fire (Eurocode 1 - part 1.2)
Thermal actions: localised and generalised fires, for internal or external structures
Mechanical actions
